About Hospice Austin

Hospice Austin patients and families have the assurance that they are being served by one of the oldest and largest hospice programs in Central Texas.  We provide family-centered, quality end-of-life care that emphasizes compassion, dignity, independence and respect. Hospice Austin is committed to relieving physical, emotional and spiritual pain so that life can be experienced as fully and hopefully as possible.

Hospice Austin offers a full range of health care services such as medical and nursing care, spiritual and emotional support, social work, personal care, special therapies, volunteer and bereavement services. Our services are designed to improve comfort, manage symptoms and deal with other difficulties such as emotional distress and grief.  Hospice Austin also provides important emotional and spiritual support to families and friends as they cope with caring for a loved one with an advanced illness, and the grief they experience after their loved one dies.

Our Mission Statement

Hospice Austin is a non-profit organization that serves terminally ill and bereaved persons in our community with integrity, compassion and respect.

History

Established as a grass-roots, community based program in 1979, Hospice Austin began providing services to terminally ill persons and their families and caregivers during the summer of 1980.  With visionary leadership and collaborative support from area hospitals, organizations, individuals and the community, Hospice Austin flourished and was able to serve every family who needed and requested our services.

In 1986, Hospice Austin became Medicare certified and expanded its service to surrounding counties. Hospice Austin and its inpatient facility, Hospice Austin's Christopher House, have been accredited since 1998, first by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and, in 2001, by the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP).

Thousands of terminally ill patients and their families have experienced the high standards of compassionate care provided by the staff and volunteers of Hospice Austin. In 2002, Hospice Austin won the inaugural Ethics in Business award conferred by the Samaritan Center and St. Edward's University.
