Grieving a Loss?

All of us grieve in our own way, in our own time. Hospice Austin can help guide you through the complicated and sometimes overwhelming grieving process. You do not have to grieve alone.

We offer the most extensive bereavement program of any hospice in Central Texas, including individual counseling, a variety of support groups, programs for families and a free summer camp for children grieving the loss of someone they love. Services are open to anyone in our community who needs them.

We offer additional support for the loved ones of our patients, including personal companion visits, telephone counseling if the loved one is home-bound, trained volunteer support and memorial services held twice a year dedicated to the remembrance of our patients.

Families in Grief
Thursdays, April 3rd – May 8th (6:00-7:30 pm)

Grieving is hard enough for adults. For children and teenagers, it can be particularly difficult.

Families in Grief is a six-week bereavement series designed to assist families who are grieving that have children ages 4 to 18. The program is open to anyone in the community.

Children are grouped with others around their own age who have experienced a significant loss. They are encouraged to express their feelings through discussion, art, storytelling and play. Their caregivers will meet separately to learn how to nurture themselves and their children through the grief process.

A dinner of pizza and salad is provided each week. An intake appointment with the family and a $25 deposit is required. The deposit is returned if families attend all six weeks and can be waived if the deposit is a hardship.

For more information, email Hospice Austin’s bereavement department or call (512) 342-4700 or (800) 445-3261.

Camp Brave Heart

Hospice Austin’s Camp Brave Heart is a free, recreational four-day (we just added an extra day!) summer camp for children and adolescents ages 6 to 17 that have experienced the death of a loved one. Applications for the 2014 camp (August 4th-7th) will become available on April 1st, 2014.

Workplace/School Grief Programs

Dealing with the loss of a co-worker or classmate can bring unique challenges. Hospice Austin offers educational seminars on dealing with grief in the workplace or in the school setting.
